Dr. John Goodner
Dr. John D. Goodner, D.P.M. is a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon specializing in comprehensive care of foot, ankle, and lower-extremity conditions in both pediatric and adult patients. With a particular focus on sports medicine, trauma, reconstruction, and minimally invasive and arthroscopic surgical techniques, Dr. Goodner is dedicated to providing individualized, evidence-based care designed to help patients return to an active lifestyle.
A native of Broward County, Dr. Goodner developed a passion for sports and medicine at an early age. He was a standout two-sport varsity athlete in baseball and football at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, where he earned recognition for both his academic and athletic accomplishments, including nominations for the Wendy’s High School Heisman and the Miami Herald Silver Knight.
Driven by his interest in sports medicine, Dr. Goodner chose to prioritize his academic career over multiple collegiate athletic opportunities. He earned a full academic scholarship to the University of Florida, graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Pre-Professional Health Science. He subsequently attended Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine, where he graduated with Pi Delta Eta honors.
Dr. Goodner completed his rigorous foot and ankle surgical residency at Memorial Healthcare System, including advanced training at a Level I Trauma Center and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. His residency provided extensive experience in complex foot and ankle trauma, pediatric conditions, sports injuries, reconstructive surgery, and advanced surgical techniques under the guidance of leading foot and ankle surgeons, podiatrists, and orthopedic surgeons.
Throughout his career, Dr. Goodner has remained committed to sports medicine, education, and community involvement. He previously served as a team physician for St. Thomas Aquinas and currently serves as the team physician for Somerset Academy Canyons, providing sports medicine care to student-athletes and supporting their safe return to competition.
Dr. Goodner also shares his expertise through surgical lectures and hands-on surgical skills laboratories as academic faculty for the HCA Florida Northwest Hospital and Baptist Bethesda Hospital Foot & Ankle Surgical Residency Programs.
As a former competitive athlete, Dr. Goodner brings a unique perspective to the treatment of sports injuries. He understands the physical demands athletes place on their bodies and the importance of a safe and efficient return to competition. Patients value his combination of surgical expertise, athletic experience, and compassionate, individualized approach to care.
